The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has dismissed rumours that Nigeriens are taking over the company and laying off Nigerian workers. The acting Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Peter Cheman, clarified this in a press briefing on Monday.

He explained that the Chief Technical Officer of YEDC is a technical partner from Niger who is part of the senior management team and is responsible for improving the network performance. He is not in charge of staff-related matters of any sort but works to make sure the network is constantly improved to serve the customers that are subscribed to the services of the company. He added that all the staff positions, both permanent and outsourced, are occupied by Nigerians who follow the rules and regulations of the power sector.

Mr. Cheman urged the customers of the company to disregard the false news circulating on social media and other faceless platforms and to report any issues related to electricity supply through the official channels of the company. He also stated that YEDC is one of the only two distribution companies in Nigeria that have fully remitted their payments to the Federal Government, according to the third quarter report of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

He assured the customers that YEDC is committed to providing quality and reliable power supply and pay for it as when due!
